Some things to expect your child’s first week

Meeting New People

They’ll meet their teachers and lots of new children. It may take a few days to learn names and feel comfortable, and that’s completely normal.

Lots of Play and Activities

Expect hands-on fun like art projects, story time, music, building blocks, pretend play, and outdoor play. These activities help children learn and make friends.

Learning a New Routine

Daycare typically follows a daily schedule (circle time, playtime, snacks, naps, outdoor time). It might feel different from home, but children usually adjust quickly once they understand what comes next.

Big Feelings (and Reassurance!)

It’s common for children to feel shy, excited, nervous, or even sad at drop-off. Teachers are used to helping children through these feelings and will provide comfort and encouragement.
